There are currently no first-party Sony studios working on PS Vita games. That’s the message being conveyed by Sony Computer Entertainment Vice President Masayasu Ito, in a recent interview with Japanese site 4Gamer.

In the interview, which was translated by DualSockers, Ito confirmed that Sony’s lack of PS Vita development, opting instead to focus on the PlayStation 4 entirely.

“Currently, first party studios have no titles in development for PS Vita. Since third parties are working very hard on PS Vita, SCE’s own strategy is to focus on PS4, which is a new platform.”

Although Sony is not interested in developing for PS Vita themselves, Ito did acknowledge that continued modest third-party support, along the likes of titles like Minecraft, as well as release of new colors for the handheld, have given PS Vita a boost in the market.

Ito’s comments also echo similar sentiments that were expressed earlier in the year by Sony Global CEO Andrew House, when he referred to the PS Vita as a “legacy platform” during an investors meeting held in March.

Sony has not indicated that they plan to drop the PS Vita from the marketplace entirely, which if done would leave Nintendo as the lone survivor in the handheld console arena.
