Grand Kingdom Offers Fresh Perspective On Tactical RPG’s

Grand Kingdom Offers Fresh Perspective On Tactical RPG’s

It’s been a long time since the glory years of the tactical RPG genre. however there are still a few gems out there for those dedicated enough to look.

One of those potential gems is Grand Kingdom, a new anime-inspired tactical RPG that is heading to the U.S. this spring for the PlayStation 4, courtesy of NIS.

The story of Grand Kingdom is set amidst the aftermath of the destruction of a ruling empire. You take command of one of four different mercenary groups, each with their own specialty skill-set, who are vying for control of the land as well as their own survival. Players will be able to populate their squad with troops that can take advantage of 12 different skill-sets and lead their mercenaries into battle through the game’s story mode, or engage thousands of other players online.

The side-scrolling perspective allows for a lot of detail in the artwork

Grand Kingdom is being designed by Tomohiko Deguchi, who you may remember from the Nintendo Wii action classic, Muramasa. Interestingly, Grand Kingdom retains the same side-scrolling perspective found in Muramasa and gives the game a resemblance to another classic title: Dragonforce, which was another tactical RPG that was released for the Sega Saturn back in 1996.

A special limited edition is being planned, which includes a number of collectible goodies including:

  • A 128-page hardcover art book
  • An actual, physical soundtrack CD, complete with a jewel case (kind of a rarity in this age of digital downloads)
  • Character poster
  • Stickers
  • Limited edition collector’s box

Grand Kingdom will be release on PlayStation 4 on June 21st, 2016.
