Mortal Kombat X – Jason Voorhees Gets a Release Date!

Mortal Kombat X – Jason Voorhees Gets a Release Date!

When Mortal Kombat X dropped a few weeks ago, the internet was up in arms within a few hours about the $30 Kombat Pack, a suite of DLC that many players had purchased beforehand or were talked into at the cash register.  Although not an outright falsehood, many felt that the Kombat Pack had been misrepresented to them as an instantaneous addition to their MKX experience.

On the PS4 forums alone, literally hundreds of consumers were expressing their confusion over how to actually download this new content (including 4 new characters) though the issue was swiftly brought to a close as the fine print was brought to light.  Much like any Season Pass, the additional content of the Kombat Pack was to be released over time.

Well, part of that wait is finally over!  For those of you who preordered the Kombat Pack or bought it on Day One, guest character Jason Voorhees will be available on May 5th!  For those without the Kombat Pack, Jason is expected to be available for general purchase on May 12th.  The update will also include several new character costumes.

Still no word on future DLC, despite an alleged schedule leaked a few weeks ago that had all four characters out by the beginning of June.

Creator Ed Boon has hinted that some of the characters encountered during Story Mode may be available at some point.  Models for Rain and Baraka are already included in the game with seemingly complete movesets and special moves.  It seems that plenty of other DLC is in the works too, including “classic fatalities.”  And for those who are a little pickier about who they pay for, soon they’ll be able to demo new downloadable characters via the Living Towers.

MKX - Rain

Will Rain be in the future of MKX?

It’s looking like we still have a lot to look forward to when it comes to Mortal Kombat X but more than a few players are asking themselves, “at what cost!?”  Indeed MKX fetched full retail price, and the Kombat Pack, though full of content, brings the entire package up to 150% that of a “regular” game.  And what about all of the extra DLC being tossed around in conversation?  It’s worth noting that Mortal Kombat (2011) included reams of additional content as well, and yet less than a year after its debut a Komplete Edition with all DLC included was released with a few extras of its own for the standard retail price of $59.99, dropping down to an even more reasonable $49.99 before long.

Speaking of which, it’d be great if users could export/import content between games and create their very own “Freddy vs. Jason”…but for now I suppose we’ll have to settle for a Predator vs. Jason match-up.  (And is it just me, or does Predator’s mask share similarities with the cybernetic Lin Kuei?)

MKX - Jason Vorhees

Looking forward to the new content?  Ready to give it whirl as soon as it comes out?  Or are you more content to wait it out and get it all in one package after all the fervor has died down?  Let us know!

Find out what these ratings mean and how I rate video games.

I collect as much video gaming paraphernalia as I can get my hands on, especially when it comes to hardware. With over 40 systems including oldies like the ColecoVision and Intellivision, obscurities like the CD-i and 3DO, and the latest and greatest including the Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, 3DS, and PS Vita, I get easily overwhelmed. Most of the time you can find me firmly nestled sometime between 1985 and 1995 when it comes to my games of choice, but I’m also having a great time seeing what the 8th generation has to offer.
