Getting Started at Nerd Bacon

Welcome

Welcome to NerdBacon.com! Our goal here at Nerd Bacon is to help you become the best writer you can be! We’re all on this website because we love video games, right? Like I have said a hundred times before, our goal is not to be identical to IGN, Kotaku, GameSpot, etc, but instead we want to be a site for devoted and passionate gamers who absolutely love video gaming and everything related. We want to establish ourselves as authoritative experts by creatively and uniquely displaying and sharing our passions. With that said, Nerdberry and theWatchman, Nerd Bacon’s 2 owners, keep a very open door to all Baconeers (Baconeer = Nerd Bacon member) as our operation goal is creative freedom and a team-oriented atmosphere within a structured system.

If this is your first time, please read through the required reading IN ORDER.

Without further ado, let’s have some fun!

IMPORTANT AMENDMENT NOTES:

As of 1/19/2018, the required reading / AKA training pages are being updated. You may see things that are conflicting to you such as “right sidebar” and “left sidebar.” When this was written in early 2015, nerdbacon featured TWO sidebars. Until the update is fully completed, this will IMPORTANT AMENDMENT NOTE will remain here. Bear with us as we get this down, but do still continue to read through if you are new. If you have questions, or are confused, feel free to inquire with nerdberry at nerdberry@nerdbacon.com. Thanks!

Getting Started

To get started reviewing here at NerdBacon . com, you’ll need to make sure you’re properly logged in.  If you’re logged in, you should see a gray toolbar at the top of the site (it will read “Howdy, [insert name]” with your profile picture if you’ve uploaded one) – See figure 1.1 .  If you don’t see this…

click MEMBERS AREA from the menu

look to the left sidebar under “Member Actions” (or scroll to the bottom) and use the link to log in. See figure 1

The redirect http://nerdbacon.com/login/ will also take you to the login area.

Figure 1.1 – How to get to your profile page

Before you start reviewing, you will need to manage a few of your default account details.  Looking at the gray toolbar, on the right you should see something along the lines of “Howdy [Your Username].”  Move your mouse over this option and you’ll be presented with the option to Edit Your Profile (see figure 1).  Click here and you’ll have the opportunity to change several options such as your display name and URLs for Facebook and Twitter.  I strongly advise you to change your password as well.

Near the bottom, you can upload your own avatar (see figure 2).  If you have a Gravatar account associated with the email address you’ve used, it may already show up automatically.  You can choose to use this, or you can upload a different one without affecting anything to do with Gravatar.

Figure 2

Figure 2

It’s necessary to upload to both the lowermost “Avatar” option as well as the DT Author Box (see figure 3.1) aka Profile Image, although no harm will come of it if you do. Please UNCHECK the checkbox for advertising DT Author Box (see figure 3.2).

Figure 3

Figure 3 – note Figure 3.1 and Figure 3.2

Please take a moment to look at a preview of your first review; notice the author box below.  If you’ve already uploaded your avatar but it does not appear in the author box, drop G (Variand) a line via email (variand@nerdbacon.com).  It’s a very easy problem to fix, but I’m not always on top of it when new members add avatars.

Once you’ve finished, be sure to save your changes.  You can now begin reviewing!

If this is your first time, please read through the required reading IN ORDER.
