What’s that? It’s Nips’s first video review? Oh, joyous day!
Welcome one, welcome all, to a review for the PC title This Is the Police, developed by Weappy Studio! This Is the Police is a very interesting real-time management sim in the vein of games such as Papers, Please. Controlling Jack Boyd, the chief of police for the town of Freeburg, your task is to make at least half a million dollars in 180 days.
Of course, your paltry salary as the chief of police is not nearly enough to get you even close. That’s where This Is the Police gets interesting; using bureaucratic trickery alongside your connections with the mafia, making your half million never seemed so easy. Of course, in the meantime you also have to keep the place running, responding to 911 calls and sending out the appropriate police on a daily basis.
While This is the Police features a very fun and intoxicating flow, there are quite a few drawbacks. For one, the rules are not entirely obvious from the start, and there are quite a few “hidden” rules that will trip you up along the way, preventing you from running your department as efficiently as possible. A lot of these issues could have been fixed with warnings or rules that are more explicit, but as it stands, playing This Is the Police can sometimes feel like pulling teeth. In fact, I got so fed up with some of the aspects of this game that I included yet another edition of Nips’s Complaint Corner, so you know I mean business.
