Amidst all the glitz and glamour of the big budget, triple-A announcements that pulse out from each E3, are the smaller, more thoughtful titles that remind us why gaming is so much fun.

We think we may have found one of those titles in Chiki-Chiki Boxy Pro Wrestling.

Combining the visual style of Minecraft with the mayhem of professional wrestling, Chiki-Chiki Boxy Pro Wrestling looks to forge its own unique take on sports entertainment. The game combines its cutesy art style with it’s an easily approachable control scheme, but don’t let the family friendly aesthetics fool you; all indications are showing that there’s plenty of depth available to keep players grappling well after the ref rings the bell.

Chiki-Chiki Boxy Pro Wrestling’s control scheme features single button press moves; however, multiple combo moves are available for seasoned ring veterans, allowing players to lay the smack down in style. Players also have the ability to fully customize their wrestler, using a bonanza of costume pieces, hair styles, etc. Want to see President Trump tag team with Ken from the Street Fighter series? You can make that strange, strange dream a reality. Players can also equip their wrestlers with a number of different moves, which will help add that special unique touch to each creation.

Different arena types will also help spice up the action in Chiki-Chiki Boxy Pro Wrestling. Players can wrestle on top of icebergs, or even inside of a volcano. These locations will add different environmental hazards to contend with, beyond just facing your opponent. The volcano stage for instance, features lava flows that actually creep inside the ring during the match.

Budding wrestling superstars can also take their battles online in a number of multiplayer modes for up to six players.

Chiki-Chiki Boxy Pro Wrestling definitely shows a lot of promise. If the gameplay ends up being as engaging as the premise, then we might just have a true hidden gem on our hands.

Chiki-Chiki Boxy Pro Wrestling launches on the Nintendo Switch eShop on June 27th, 2019.
