Tetris is Building Towards the Big Screen

Tetris is Building Towards the Big Screen

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Threshold Entertainment is working on a movie adaptation of the video game classic Tetris, in a report posted online today.

Threshold Entertainment CEO Larry Kasanoff told the Wall Street Journal that he envisioned the movie version of  Tetris as a “big, epic sci-fi movie,” and added,  “This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to the geometric shapes.”

Kasanoff also eluded to the prospects of Tetris becoming an entire franchise of films, along with “location based entertainment.”

“Brands are the new stars of Hollywood. We have a story behind ‘Tetris’ which makes it a much more imaginative thing.”

Kasanoff has had previous experience with bringing gaming titles to the big screen, having been responsible for film versions of Mortal Kombat in the mid-nineties.

For some people, Tetris is more than just a potential movie franchise.

For some people, Tetris is more than just a potential movie franchise.

Tetris the movie is currently in the early stages of development, with no cast, crew, or director having been assigned to the project, however it sounds like Kassanoff has grand designs for the project.

“What you see in ‘Tetris’ is the teeny tip of an iceberg that has intergalactic significance.”

Are you interested in seeing a Tetris movie? Or do the pieces just not fit?
