Nerd Rating: 7 out of 10!
Hello Robloxians and other readers! I am Justicescooby (Justcescooby on ROBLOX), Nerd Bacon’s local resident Robloxian, and this is my review of Maelstronomer’s Super Blocky Ball. A few weeks ago my friends and I were looking for a game to play and when I came across Super Blocky Ball, it immediately caught my eye due to my love of GMod Tower: Ball Race and Super Monkey Ball. Naturally, I forced my friends to come to the game and race with me, only to find the game to not quite be what I expected.
While Super Blocky Ball looks a lot like the aforementioned games, it is not like them in much other than the fact you are racing in a ball. Super Blocky Ball lacks what I would consider to be the main point of said games, and that is the frustratingly thin maps aligned with traps, and the collision with other players. In truth, Super Blocky Ball plays out a lot more like Mario Kart as opposed to Super Monkey Ball. With that being said, Super Blocky Ball fails to capture the enjoyability of Mario Kart due to its lack of items.
My favorite part of Super Blocky Ball is the variety of tracks in which you race on. While the tracks weren’t made by Maelstronomer himself, the builders of the tracks did a grand job. A few of the tracks had themes that come from the old days of ROBLOX, 2006 – 2009, and the nostalgia that these tracks gave me was quite enjoyable.
The details of Super Blocky Ball improve the experience quite vastly, I must say. The upbeat techno soundtrack is a perfect fit for the intense races, and the ramps around the lobby make it so you won’t be bored even when waiting for the next race to begin. The different ball skins you are able to collect is a nice touch, and I really like the throwbacks to old times. Not to mention, the little “side game” of sorts to collect all the different skins is great for when you don’t really feel like racing any longer.
Super Blocky Ball is in no way a bad game, and it can be extremely enjoyable with the right type of people and an interest in playing a racing game. The biggest problem I had with the game is the fact that it seems to have taken the concept of popular games but completely left out the point of them. In other words, imagine somebody took the match-three idea and the candy icons from Candy Crush, but didn’t add the time-limit, difficulty, or special power-ups. Overall, Super Blocky Ball got boring for my friends and I after a few rounds, but when in the mood, we still go back and race every now and then.
