Sony Says “I’m Sorry” for PlayStation Network Outage

Sony has offered all subscribers of its PlayStation Network service a free five day subscription extension an apology over the recent outage that that plagued PSN over Christmas.

If only we had listened to David Icke when he warned us about the shape-shifting lizard people. We might have been able to play Destiny over Christmas

“Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available.” Said a post on January 1, 2015 on the PlayStation Blog.

In addition, Sony also stated that they will offer PlayStation Network subscribers a 10% discount code off of total purchases as a way to say thank you.

The PlayStation Network was taken down for several days during the Christmas holiday because of a denial of service attack by a group that will remain on unnamed on Nerd Bacon. One of the group’s goals was to get attention, which we will not dignify. The goals of the group in taking down PlayStation Network, as well as Microsoft’s counterpart, Xbox Live, has varied from protests over the high costs of the services versus security that is provided; to simply “for the lulz”.

The subscription extension for PlayStation Network subscribers will automatically be applied and Sony says that the 10% discount details will be revealed later this month.
