Everyone is a Recruit in Watchdogs Legion – E3 2019
Ubisoft started off their E3 2019 showcase Monday with a closer look on the upcoming third entry in the Watchdogs series: Watchdogs Legion.
Watchdogs Legion takes place in a near-future version of London; a city that has been transformed into an authoritative, Orwellion nightmare. The citizens are oppressed under the thumb of constant surveillance, autonomous drones designed to keep the masses in line, and a jack-booted security force that is more comfortable dishing out a beating than giving directions.
The future depiction of London is definitely bleaker than the one normally romanticized in most media; but beneath this technocratic nightmare, a resistance is quietly rising: Dedsec.
Their operatives – potentially anyone.
Ubisoft’s gameplay concept demo showed off a tantalizing array of possibilities for players exploring Watchdogs Legion’s dystopian version of London.
As we stated previously, any NPC encountered in the world can potentially be recruited as a member of Dedsec. This could range from a simple delivery driver – to a student out for a quick stroll. And as demonstrated in Ubisoft’s presentation, you can even play as an elderly lady looking for thrills beyond feeding pigeons in the park. Each character becomes fully playable once they’re recruited to Dedsec’s ranks; each bringing with them their own unique skills and abilities to the resistance group. Story elements will also evolve depending on who the player chooses to play as, and in a truly impressive feat, cut-scenes will also evolve and feature the proper character.
Each of these NPC characters will also be able to level up their skills as players progress throughout the campaign. Recruited characters reside in a roster and can be selected at any time to help tackle a variety of missions and situations. Adding to this unique element is another twist: permanent death.
That’s right, if your character is killed during the course of Watchdogs Legion, they stay dead and a new character will have to be selected from your roster of recruits.
This freedom of who you play as in Watchdogs Legion, as well as the danger imposed by the proposition of permanent death, will create an almost infinite amount of replayability to the game.
Players will get their chance to help liberate London when Watch Dogs Legion launches on March 6th, 2020.
