Cosmic Star Heroine Could Land On Nintendo Switch

Cosmic Star Heroine Could Land On Nintendo Switch

Thursday’s revelation of the Nintendo’s hybrid console, Nintendo Switch, was an exciting moment for both gamers and developers.

Within minutes of the Nintendo Switch introduction video’s debut, Zeboyd Games developer Robert Boyd publicly mused about the possibility of porting their upcoming retro RPG, Cosmic Star Heroine, to the new console.

Boyd later announced that Zeboyd Games had re-activated their Nintendo developer account, and went on to state that the Nintendo Switchshould be a joy to develop for”, while also expressing his love of portable systems.

For those unfamiliar, Cosmic Star Heroine is a sci-fi RPG inspired by classics such as Chrono Trigger and the Phantasy Star series. It features lovely hand-drawn sprite work that acts a lovely homage to those legends of the 16-bit era.

Cosmic Star Heroine has been featured on Sony’s Official PlayStation Blog, although it is not planned as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

While those Twitter postings are not necessarily a confirmation that Cosmic Star Heroine in now a lock for the Nintendo Switch, one interesting facet to consider is the fact that the game is being developed using the Unity engine, which is featured prominently as a development partner for the Nintendo Switch. Theoretically, this should make porting a game like Cosmic Star Heroine relatively painless; although without an official spec-sheet from Nintendo it’s impossible to determine whether or not Cosmic Star Heroine could be readied in time for Nintendo Switch’s planned March 2017 release date.
