Street Fighter V Will Tell A Tale – Cinematic Story Mode Details Revealed
Street Fighter V has faced a turbulent ride, ever since it was released in February of this year.
Despite an excellent core fighting engine, Capcom has had to endure complaints – many of which were justified – regarding Street Fighter V’s sparse single-player content, server issues, input lag, match-making, and an overall lack of communication about the release of additional content for the game.
Capcom has been steadily rolling out improvements and features to Street Fighter V, and today they have given an
update on one of the most eagerly anticipated features initially promised during Street Fighter V’s launch; the Cinematic Story Mode.
This electronic pugilist tale, dubbed: A Shadow Falls, will be an expanded story reminiscent of the excellent story modes found in NetherRealm Studio’s revival of the Mortal Kombat series.
The story mode will be approximately 4 hours in length and according to Capcom, it will fill in the narrative gaps between Street Fighter’s IV and III.
The Street Fighter V Cinematic Story mode will also feature all 6 of the first season’s confirmed DLC characters. Currently, Alex and Guile have been the first two fighters to have been released since February, with Ibuki scheduled to hit later this month. The remaining fighters releasing throughout the rest of the year are: Balrog, Urien, and Juri, however, they will all be playable as part of the story prior to their official releases.
Street Fighter V’s tale will follow Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li as the seek to uncover the mysteries of 7 enigmatic “black moons” that have been released by M. Bison’s nefarious Shadaloo criminal organization. Along the way the trio will run into the rest of the cast of world warrior’s, on their quest to vanquish evil.
In addition to today’s story update, Capcom has also noted that they are scrapping their original plans for in-game currency.
Under the initial plan, real money would have been used to purchase “Zeny”, which would then be used to pick up in-game items. Capcom has had some problems with implementing the scheme, so now they will just utilize the PlayStation Store and the Steam store for real-world transactions.
Capcom says that the Street Fighter V Cinematic Story will be released as a free update by the end of June. (That’s this month!)
