The Blue Bomber is Back! Capcom Announces Mega Man and More 11!!
Capcom gave Mega Man fans around the world an early Christmas present Monday afternoon, with the announcement that Mega Man 11 is now in development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC!
The Mega Man 11 announcement came as part of Capcom’s 30th anniversary celebration stream and marks the first entry in the storied franchise in over seven years.
Mega Man 11 will feature a 2.5D art-style that complements hand-drawn characters, giving the game a fresh look, while retaining some of the classic 16-bit aesthetics found in the Mega Man X series on the SNES. It does appear similar to last year’s long in development, and ultimately disappointing, Mighty No. 9; however, there is a strong pedigree of veteran talent at the helm of this rebirth of the Mega Man franchise.
While fans are already eager to get their hands on Mega Man 11 after such an excruciatingly long wait, they will need to have a bit more patience. That’s because Mega Man 11 isn’t expected to release until late 2018.
Mega Man 11’s shock announcement wasn’t the only treat Capcom had up their sleeves.
The company also announced that all 8 Mega Man X titles will be released in 2018 as part of a Mega Man X Collection! This special compilation will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
Speaking of Nintendo Switch, Capcom also answered one of the biggest points of frustration that fans have expressed towards the company in the past year: Why haven’t the 2 Mega Man Collections (Mega Man Collection, which features the first 6 titles in the series – and Mega Man Collection 2 which features titles 7 – 10) been released on the Nintendo Switch?
Well wonder no more!
Capcom announced that both Mega Man Collection and Mega Man Collection 2 will be releasing next year for Nintendo’s wonder hybrid. And to entice fans even further; both titles will feature Amiibo support. So it sounds like we’ll be getting new Amiibo’s to add to our must buy lists. (I’m already salivating over the possibilities of some of the classic Mega Man boss characters being represented in Amiibo form!)
All in all, it was a fantastic day to be a Mega Man fan!
The fact that Capcom is moving the series forward is a dream come true for many gamers, and the impending arrival of the Mega Man X collection, as well as the original series collections for Nintendo Switch is certainly a 30th anniversary year worth celebrating.
