During Day 1 of Nintendo’s Treehouse Live at E3 2017, Nintendo revealed a couple of surprising new titles for the Nintendo 3DS, one of which being a full remake of the hit Game Boy Advance title, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga with a brand new side-story mode called Bowser’s Minions!

Besides the fun of enjoying the first of the Mario & Luigi series anew, this Bower’s Minions Quest offers players the chance to flex their strategic muscles as the captain in charge of a squad of Bowser’s minions as you attempt to reunite everyone to help save Bowser.

From what was shown during the Treehouse Live, players create a squad of eight minions, including one of the Captains, to take on a series of battles against other squads in order to recruit them to your army. Balancing minions to create a well-rounded squad will be important as each unit will have their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Luckily, as Captain, the player will be able to assist their units in battle using different commands at the cost of their Captain’s Tokens.

In addition to the game, two new Super Mario Bros. Series amiibo were also shown during the Treehouse Live, Goomba and Koopa Troopa amiibo which will be compatible with the game. According to Nintendo’s website, the upcoming Goomba, Koopa Troopa, and previously released Boo amiibo will all have read/write compatibility with the game, but for what purpose is unknown. My guess is that it may have something to do with saving squad or Captain data.

Mario & Luigi Superstar Sage + Bowser’s Minions along with the compatible Goomba and Koopa Troopa amiibo will be marching your way on October 6th 2017!
