Star Fox Joins Ubisoft’s Starlink: Battle for Atlas – E3 2018
Ubisoft had a huge surprise for those of us eagerly anticipating their upcoming toys-to-life, space adventure, Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Legendary Nintendo character Fox McCloud, star of the Star Fox series, will be a feature playable character in the Nintendo Switch version of the game!
Ubisoft’s head, Yves Guillmot made the announcement during Ubisoft’s E3 2018 press event Monday afternoon, and even welcomed a very special guest – renowned Nintendo creator Shigeru Miyamoto on stage to present him with a special statue of Star Fox’s signature Arwing space fighter.
“This was made possible thanks to our long relationship with Nintendo” said Guillmot during the announcement.
Nintendo and Ubisoft’s relationship has grown closer in the past year following the release of Nintendo’s latest console, the Nintendo Switch. The two companies recently worked closely on last year’s release of the surprise strategy hit, Mario x Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, which saw Mario, Luigi, Peach and others crossed over in a strategy epic with Ubisoft’s zany Rabbids characters. The title released to received very positive reviews and an expansion featuring Donkey Kong characters will be released this June.
Space combat features heavily into Starlink: Battle for Atlas, with the main gameplay element coming in the form of actual toy space ships that can be purchased and scanned into the game. Additional pieces can be added onto these ships on the fly, allowing for an interesting and unique level of customization. Of course, with the announcement of Star Fox characters joining the fight in Starlink: Battle for Atlas, one would expect to be able to own an actual, physical Arwing of their very own, and Ubisoft plans to deliver.
The Nintendo Switch Starter edition of Starlink: Battle for Atlas features Fox’s iconic Arwing, two additional weapons, and a Fox McCloud figure.
Players can strap into the cockpit when Starlink launches on October 16th, 2018.
