Streets of Rage and Shenmue Soundtracks Coming to Vinyl

Streets of Rage and Shenmue Soundtracks Coming to Vinyl

It is with great pleasure that I inform you, retro gaming and retro audio enthusiast, that newly founded London-based record label Data Discs will be releasing the soundtracks of 2 great SEGA games on the ever-popular vinyl format. Streets of Rage and Shenmue. So dust off your record players and get to spinning.

Although the albums will not ship until September 2015, pre-orders will begin on May 30th when the website officially launches. As with most pre-order items these days, they are sure to be fancy and exclusive, which is a great way of saying “Thank You” to the folks who are willing to front the money and wait months for their orders.

Streets of Rage, as you know, is a very popular SEGA beat ’em up game from the early 1990s, and Shenmue is a critically acclaimed open-world adventure game for the Dreamcast. What do these 2 games have in common other than their famed SEGA development? Both games feature soundtracks developed by the famous composer Yuzo Koshiro. While Koshiro is perhaps most famous for his works on all three Streets of Rage titles, he is also responsible for the composition on a number of Shinobi games, some 8-bit Sonic games, The Story of Thor series, and much more.

Furthermore, Koshiro collaborated with Data Discs on the remastering of these albums which means a lot for the perception of quality and authenticity! And with a little luck, maybe Koshiro will be involved when they release albums for Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3, which is something they have planned.

Fans of vinyl format music, Yuzo Koshiro, SEGA, retrogaming, and video gaming as a whole should be very excited for this news! We hope to see more unique stuff like this from SEGA and other companies.
