Get Your Game On! Nintendo World Championships Set To Return

Nintendo has confirmed that their Nintendo World Championships event will be returning in 2016, according to an article from Cnet published June 16th.

The Nintendo World Championships will be back in 2016. Will you be ready to play?

The article was discussing the explosion in the popularity of e-sports over the past few years, and highlighted the Nintendo World Championships event, which was held during the lead up to E3 2015 and according to the article, drew an online audience of over 200,000.

In addition to the example of the Nintendo World Championships, Cnet also highlighted how several companies are dedicating online avenues for streaming game competitions, as well as South Korea having a dedicated television channel devoted solely to e-sports.

The end of the article mentions that Nintendo is planning to hold the next round of the Nintendo World Championships in 2016, although Cnet did not offer a direct quote on the subject.

Nintendo World Championships aside, Cnet’s article is a fascinating read, so be sure to check it out here. NerdBacon’s News Editor theWatchman has also offered his views on how e-sports could grow in the U.S. with mainstream audiences, and you can check that out here.
