Jason Lives!! New Friday The 13th: The Game Kickstarter announced
The Friday the 13th franchise is set to return in an ambitious multi-player title from Gun Media.
Friday the 13th: The Game originally started as an entirely different title which served as an homage to the horror film genre entitled, Slasher Volume 1: Summer Camp. Events accelerated after that announcement, culminating in the team being gifted the Friday the 13th license by film director and owner of the license to the franchise, Sean S. Cunningham, who will also lend assistance with thematic support for the new title.
A number of cast and crew members from the Friday the 13th films have enthusiastically lent their talents to Friday the 13th: The Game, including:
- Kane Hodder – Actor who played Jason in Friday the 13th parts 7 and 8, Jason Goes to Hell, and Jason X.
- Tom Savini – Visual Effects artist/actor
- Harry Manfredini – The original composer for Friday the 13th.
Friday the 13th: The Game will be a 1 versus 7 multi-player only title, with one player assuming the iconic role of Jason, and the other seven players taking on the role of camp counselors. Those counselors will come in a variety of classes, such as “the nerdy guy,” who is described as being adept at fixing vehicles and technological objects, “the jock,” or “heroic girl.” Players can make the choice to work together in order to survive Jason’s brutal attacks, however as the tension and fear levels rise, comradere may devolve into every man for him (or her) self.
Friday the 13th: The Game is currently seeking $700,000 worth of funding via a Kickstarter campaign that began today, and will close on November 13th. Be sure to check out the official Friday the 13th: The Game Kickstarter page for an interview with the designers and original crew members on the re-birth of this classic horror franchise.
