Arcade 1Up Makes the Dream of Owning an Arcade Game a Reality
Okay, admit it – you’ve always, deep down inside, have secretly wished you could have an authentic arcade cabinet in your home.
Even though our modern day consoles offer so many advantages that weren’t possible during the golden age of arcades, there’s still an intangible magic in being able to play a game like Street Fighter II on the original hardware for which it was produced.
While it’s still possible to locate many classic arcade cabinets from our youth, the realities of modern life make actually owning one impractical. Not to mention the fact that if you actually locate a game that you’ve always wanted, the condition of that game is often pretty bad. 20 years of wear and tear mean not only spending $500 to buy the game, but also extra money on restoring that game to its former glory.
Thankfully, Arcade 1Up has come to save the day!
Arcade 1Up is a company dedicated to providing an authentic arcade experience at an affordable price.
The cabinets themselves are a thing of beauty. Each one feels exactly as smooth as you remembered. The arcade sticks and buttons have a luxurious quality to them that faithfully replicate all of your fondest memories of sinking countless hours of time, as well as countless amounts of quarters, into games like Street Fighter II, Rampage, or Asteroids.
Besides the high-quality equipment at the heart of Arcade 1Up’s replicas, the cabinets themselves are a marvel. Each one weighs in at only 60lbs! While that might set alarm bells ringing as to the quality of builds, each cabinet has a solid, durable feeling that immediately dispels any fears.
Perhaps the most shocking aspect of Arcade 1Up’s current product line was the price: units are being offered for as low as $300 at retailers like WalMart.
We had a chance to chat with Arcade 1Up’s David McIntosh about how the project came about, and their vision going forward.
