There’s More Than One Side to Yoshi on Nintendo Switch – E3 2017
Nintendo needs to be careful, otherwise they are going to run out of cute graphical styles to use in representing Mario’s dinosaur pal, Yoshi.
Originally born with a crayon motif on the Super NES title: Yoshi’s Island, Nintendo has had a history of experimenting with the series’ visual presentations. Most recently, the Wii U iteration of the world’s favorite dinosaur platforming hero featured an adorable yarn style in Yoshi’s Woolly World.
Now Yoshi is back in a new self-titled platform title for the Nintendo Switch. This time the designers decided to imagine the game’s world as a sort of fun cardboard diorama.
While the new style acts as a way to visually set the game apart from other games on the market, it also acts as a catalyst for new gameplay opportunities.
The stages in Yoshi each have multiple sides to them. Moving into the background and foreground opens up new avenues for exploration, and of course, a multitude of secrets for players to find.
Yoshi made a stop Wednesday at the Nintendo Treehouse booth during E3 2017 for a full gameplay demonstration, which you can check out for yourself down below.
Yoshi is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch in 2018.
