Calling all gamers! Calling all gamers! Nerd Bacon is looking to add to its team with video game lovers who also know how to write and do other nerdy stuffs! We are fast-approaching our 7th year of tasty gaming, and with that growth comes a need for new blood. Absolutely no experience necessary, we just ask that you be good at what you are offering to the site (i.e. if you want to write reviews, you need to be a decent writer), and that you be into video games or whatever nerdy venture you are diving into here! We love to help others grow, and we are willing to coach and teach as needed! This is where you come in. You may be asking yourself, “What can I offer?” Well, let’s look into that.

Nerd Bacon is the most unique site on the web for contributors because you can make it whatever you want it. If you’re a talented writer, then you can write articles. If you’re a great artist, you can showcase your art. If you fancy yourself a comedian with some artistic skills, you can write gaming related comics. If you’re great with Instagram and Twitter, you can handle social media accounts and build a resume as a social media director. And the list goes on. Whatever you’re good at, you can do it here.

Please note: There is no official Nerd Bacon office. So all positions are “work from home” in nature. You will not be required to travel or meet up with anyone. While officially based in Raleigh, NC and Des Moines, IA, much of our staff is scattered through the nation: Georgia, Michigan, Florida, California, etc. And even Australia!

If you want to work in the gaming industry, this is the best place to start. We are looking for budding stars who have drive and initiative and want to grow in the gaming industry. Many of our previous contributors have used Nerd Bacon as a growing platform (a stepping stone for future jobs, if you will) to hone their skills, grow their talents, network, and to boost their resume. If you have dreams of making a living working in the gaming industry, Nerd Bacon is where you start.

COMPENSATION

For the sake of total transparency: Nerd Bacon has no revenue (by choice) and therefore this is a non-pay position. But that does not mean there is nothing to be made here. Many of our writers receive free games, game codes, swag, press kits, and press badges to conventions (that means behind the scenes stuffs!). You can use Nerd Bacon and our already-established fanbase and audience to bring in money for yourself. You also have the benefit of free coaching, free training, and a loose structure that allows you to work at your own pace.

Nerd Bacon is fully funded from the pockets of its owners Nerdberry and TheWatchman. We do not gain monetarily from the works of our staff and contributors. If Nerd Bacon reaches a state where small revenue is generated, that money will be put back into the site for further growth. If revenue reaches a point where contributors and staff can receive monetary compensation, a pay structure will be designed.

HOW TO APPLY

If you are applying for a writing position, please complete the writing sample field by submitting a brief review of a game of your choosing. If you are applying for a non-writing position, please attach a document stating your goals and intentions at Nerd Bacon. *Position definitions

Writer: This one is pretty self-explanatory, but in case you’re unsure: an NB writer writes gaming reviews, DIY articles, news pieces, thought-pieces, and any other creative articles that they want!

Creative Contributor: This position is for anyone who wants to contribute with a variety of creative ideas that cannot be contained under one label. What you do is up to you!

Live Streamer: Does live video streaming via Twitch, Mixer, Periscope, etc.

Website Builder / Editor: Handles updating plug-ins, handles various technical aspects of the site, and will assist in the current rebuild of the site.

Social Media Director: This person will be responsible for creating and maintaining a social media presence as well as growing overall numbers of followers.

Social Media Associate: This person will be an assistant to the director.

Media Director: This person (or persons) will be responsible for managing the various media of Nerd Bacon and finding creative ways to showcase our media. Everything from YouTube videos to pictures and music.

Brand and Website Art Director: This person is responsible for art creation, logo variations, website buttons, unique art for articles, and visual brand management.

Brand and Website Art Associate: Assistant to the director.

Editor: Editors are responsible for editing articles before they are published, and this includes, but is not limited to: Ensure articles are of high quality and caliber, ensure they are factual and accurate, check for major spelling or grammatical errors, ensure articles follow proper formatting guidelines.

Editor-in-Chief: Manages team of editors and does editing as needed.
