Doom 3: BFG Edition – PC

Actually, now that I think about it, DOES Doom 3 count as an action game? I know it’s a first-person shooter, and the Doom 3: BFG Edition made some changes, but was it ever really meant to fill a gamer with the pump of adrenaline or just to try and spook them into turning up their monitor’s brightness? I look into this rehashed official third installment prequel (???) to see why this installment of id’s flagship series missed the boat on being truly successful.

Doom II – PC

Doom II: Hell on Earth perfected the Doom formula to the fast-paced, heart-thumping standard we know today, introducing a new trademark weapon and many new and very deadly enemies. Add that to the countless mods that have been made for it, and there’s no other gaming classic around that gives you a better bang for your buck(shot).

Wolfenstein 3D – PC

For almost everyone outside of Germany, Wolfenstein 3D was an explosive introduction to what many of us would regard as the proper first-person shooter genre. Back then, all you needed was a few guns, a bunch of Nazis, and hidden rooms behind push-walls. But does this dusty relic still cut to the core like granddad’s serrated WWII combat knife? Get psyched.
