Super Mario Maker Undergoes Emergency Maintenance

Super Mario Maker Undergoes Emergency Maintenance

A few hours ago, Nintendo shut down the online functionality for Super Mario Maker for what they’re calling “emergency maintenance.”  Nintendo hopes to have the issue fixed by 8pm EST tomorrow (January 28th) but it’s anyone’s best guess as to what could be causing such an error.

Users will still be able to play and create their own levels as well as any levels provided via CourseBot or others that have been downloaded locally, but the entire “Course World” mode, which features the “100 Mario Challenge,” Event Courses, and the ability to upload, share, and play levels created by players from around the world is currently unavailable.

Super Mario Maker - Course World

Nintendo has stated that the game’s online features – like Course World – will be offline until 8pm EST on January the 28th.

Apart from a few updates, Super Mario Maker has stayed relatively simple in terms of its online functionality; currently no DLC exists nor does any money change hands (such as micro-transactions), leaving players stumped as to what could be so badly broken for the game to remain offline in excess of 24 hours.

Have you experienced any issues with Super Mario Maker in the hours leading up to its online shutdown?  Let us know what you think could’ve brought about such “emergency maintenance” all of a sudden!
