Sega may not have quite nailed down market tastes with the Sega CD and especially the 32X, but at least they offered what was essentially an expansion to the existing equipment and not a hasty replacement. Doing it that way feels a little less like abject fuckery if you ask me.
I know this isn’t the first time we’ve seen console upgrades (how many models of the 360 did Microsoft churn out…?) but based on the info given it feels to me like Sony is walking a thin and dangerous line between a simple product upgrade and brand-spankin’ new VR system. It also raises serious questions about an impending “PS5” – how long before all this VR stuff is fully realized and they need to build a new system from the ground up? What if I make the leap to “PS4K” only to be confronted with the “PS5” in 2018-19? I’ve actually been pretty happy with the PS4 so far – especially compared to the XBO – so this news strikes me as particularly crappy…
