The Pokemon Company has announced a new spin-off title called Pokken Tournament, during a live streaming event that took place earlier today.
Pokken Tournament is a fighting game collaboration between the Pokemon Company and Namco Bandai and is set to be released in arcades in 2015.
Most interesting is the involvement of legendary Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada, and his development team at Namco Bandai.
Gaming Website Kotaku translated som quotes from Harada during the event that provided a little bit of insight into the new game:“Whether you are a casual player, a regular player or a hardcore player, anyone who likes Pokémon can have fun.” Harada also meantioned that Pokken Tournament was “closer to an action game” and that it uses Namco Bandai’s “know how.”
So far, Pokken Tournament has only been slated for arcade release in Japan. Hopefully we will get some details soon on any plans for a western release, and perhaps a Wii U version.
There is some more info on the official Pokken Tournament website, and of course we have some screenshots and the announcement trailer below:

I’m really interested in seeing how this one turns out. Hey! Maybe this will be the game that gets my girlfriend (who LOVES Pokemon) into fighting games..
Man if I was more into Pokemon this would be really appealing to me! But even though I’m NOT, I still think this is a really awesome concept. Especially teaming up with a respected fighting brand such as Tekken!
If they make Hitmonlee play exactly like Hwoarang I’ll be absolutely fine with that.
