Watch Your Language – New Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Trailer – E3 2015

Watch Your Language – New Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Trailer – E3 2015

One could be forgiven, amidst the shock and awe that was being produced by the mega-ton announcements generated during Sony’s E3 2015 press event last night, for forgetting that we have a huge sequel to a beloved series whose release that is just around the corner.

Ask Big Boss how he's doing and he might tell you; things have been better.

Ask Big Boss how he’s doing and he might tell you; things have been better.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s latest trailer, released yesterday, was not going to produce the same type of giddy euphoria that other announcements produced last night, however there are still moments and little easter eggs, especially at the end, that should make long-time series fans very happy indeed.

A voice-over in the latest Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer pontificates on how language can be used to manipulate populations of different nations and cultures.

Every civilization’s ruler has had the same idea; when people unite under one will, they become stronger than the some of their parts. And what do rulers use to bring people together? Language.” said an undisclosed voice at the beginning of the trailer.

The clip goes on to talk about uniting the world and turning the idea of different borders and nations themselves, into something that is irrelevant in a united world, however to truly unite the world, it must first be torn apart.

Free the world, not by taking men’s lives, but by taking their tongues.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s director Hideo Kojima has long used the series as a way to get people thinking about political and cultural issues, so it will be very interesting to see what direction, what language, will be put forth when the world gets their hands on the game.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait too much longer to find out what Kojima has on his mind. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will transcend borders, nations, and store shelves when it launches on September 1, 2015.

In the meantime, check out the trailer for yourself, and maybe do a little bit of pontificating of your own in the comments section.
