Overwatch League is escorted over to ESPN, ABC, and Disney

Overwatch League is escorted over to ESPN, ABC, and Disney

The newly popular, Overwatch League, is coming to ESPN, Disney, and ABC family of networks. That’s right! What you just read is not a mistake. Blizzard’s objective based first person shooter has not only become so popular that it has its own worldwide league, it’s going to be on network television. This was announced by ESPN, Disney, and Blizzard Entertainment on Wednesday.

The announced deal is a multi-year broadcast deal that includes the Overwatch League playoffs that begin Wednesday, July 11th, the Season One Grand Finals that take place in the Barclays Center in New York July 27th through July 28th, and the second season in 2019. This means you can expect to see hundreds of hours of live Overwatch action as well as replays on ESPN, ESPN2, Disney XD, and ABC. ABC will have a recap of highlights on July 29th, and if that’s not enough it’ll all be available for ESPN and Disney network subscribers via live stream on the ESPN App and DisneyNOW.

Expect to see images like this on your living room tv very soon!

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen eSports broadcast via a network such as ESPN, but it’ll surely be the biggest event to date, especially since tickets to the Grand Finals are sold out. Fans needing their Overwatch fix will have to take to network television to catch all the action. The deal is said to be the biggest yet for video game developer Blizzard Entertainment while deepening the commitment to eSports for ESPN.

While all this is breaking and exciting news it is worth mentioning that this does not affect the streaming deal that the Overwatch League has with the live stream giant Twitch. Therefore, you are also able to catch live action via Twitch on top of the newly accessible viewing options.

Blizzard’s Overwatch is still incredibly popular among game players across the globe and doesn’t show any signs of slowing. What do you think of the continued growth eSports is having? Will this make you tune in to catch any of the playoff coverage?

As always stay tuned to NerdBacon.com for all things Overwatch League, and the best in video game news and reviews.
