Cut The Cord – Sony Rolls Out PlayStation Vue Service

Cut The Cord – Sony Rolls Out PlayStation Vue Service

Sony has announced that its live-streaming television service, PlayStation Vue, has launched nationwide today, via a post on the PlayStation Blog.

The PlayStation Vue service allows subscribers to watch live television across a growing variety of networks, including FX, Comedy Central, Showtime, and many others.

Many of you have been patiently waiting for PlayStation Vue to come to your city, and today we’re pleased to announce that PlayStation Vue is making its nationwide debut.” said Eric Lempel on the official PlayStation Blog.

Originally announced at E3 2015, PlayStation Vue has spent the last year in major test markets such as Chicago and New York. Today’s national roll out expands the service to 203 additional markets throughout the U.S.

PlayStation Vue’s national debut also comes on the heels of last weeks announcement that Disney had agreed to provide its network content on Sony’s service. This agreement covered heavy-hitters like ABC and most importantly, ESPN.

Right now Sony is offering three different plans under the PlayStation Vue service:

  • Access Slim: 55+ channels, including live cable TV, movies, and sports channels for $29.99 per month.
  • Core Slim: 70+ channels, including all the channels from Access Slim with the addition of national and regional sports networks for $34.99 per month.
  • Elite Slim: 100+ channels, featuring all the channels from Core Slim with the addition of more top movie and entertainment channels for $44.99 per month.

It will be interesting to see what kind of reaction the big cable and satellite providers might have to counter Sony’s expansion into a program provider, especially considering that there are 37 million PlayStation 4’s that have been sold so far, along with recent data showing that 1 in 4 millennials are opting to “cut the cord”.

You can head over to Sony’s official PlayStation Vue website to read up on the different plans, or sign up for a free 7-day trial of the service.

Are you interested in Sony providing you your T.V. as well as games? Just want to stick it to big cable? Give us your revolutionary musings in the comments section below.
