Warriors to Meet Heroes in Street Fighter x G.I. Joe
I think I might be in some form of nerd Heaven (or as I like to call it, Nerdvana).
Two great properties are set to collide later this month when the Street Fighter franchise joins forces with G.I. Joe in a brand new comic book series.
Street Fighter x G.I. Joe pits the original world warriors and the real American heroes in a desperate bid to stop the forces of evil.
According to the folks over at the Capcom Unity blog, G.I. Joe baddie Destro and Street Fighter crime lord M. Bison have united to hold a secret fighting tournament on a remote island in the middle of international waters. The members of G.I. Joe decide to seek out and recruit some of the various Street Fighter veterans in order to stop whatever evil plans the nefarious duo are attempting to manifest in the course of their tournament.
Street Fighter X G.I. Joe will feature several favorites from both respective series, such as: Ryu, Snake-Eyes, Scarlet, Chun-Li, Duke, Guile, and more!
This should lead to a number of very interesting scenarios, and as Capcom Unity put it, “enough fireballs to make you wonder why anyone needs a gun that shoots blue lasers.”
IDW will be publishing the six-part series, which will be overseen by Aubrey Sittersen and Emilio Laiso, with David Garcia Cruz handling the art.
You can expect to start seeing issues of Street Fighter x G.I. Joe hitting newsstands and your favorite comic book shops on February 24th.
Fans of Street Fighter or G.I. Joe (or people who are old and have long memories like me) may recall that this is not the first time that the two franchises have crossed paths.
In 1993 Hasbro released a line of Street Fighter action figures to accompany their ongoing G.I. Joe line. All twelve members of the original Street Fighter cast appeared in this line, complete with special weapons and in some cases, action moves.
Are you joining me in Nerdvana when issue 1 of Street Fighter x G.I. Joe hits the, ahem, streets? Does this crossover make you salivate over the possibility of a video game based off the comic book? Send your dearest dreams to the comments section below.
