11 Years Later, PlayStation 4 Exclusive NiOh Reappears

11 Years Later, PlayStation 4 Exclusive NiOh Reappears

nioh screenshotThe Last Guardian fans were very vocal when the game infamously went dormant for such a long period of time, and every E3 had PlayStation owners wondering if it’d be shown again. NiOh performed a very similar disappearing act after it was announced for the upcoming PlayStation 3 in 2004, but was more or less forgotten other than a few updates on its progress when developers promised that it was still in the works. Koei Tecmo surprised fans at PlayStation’s TGS pre-show by unveiling the game in its current form, reborn as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Fans of Onimusha, Dark Souls, Witcher, Shin Megami Tensei, and the Ninja Gaiden series should rejoice. Looks like we have Geralt facing enemies from Japanese folklore in an almost horror-esque vision of Japan with combat that appears to be fast paced, but also about carefully dodging and parrying enemies. Borrowing great parts of all the franchises mentioned, NiOh has come out of its cryogenic chamber looking damn good. With Capcom having seemingly abandoned their samurai action franchise, NiOh will fill the “Japanese warrior in the feudal era slaying gross monsters and demons with incredible swordplay” hole that Onimusha‘s absence has left. The game is set to release sometime in 2016, and only on PlayStation 4. We’ll have plenty more news about this title before then. Here’s hoping the game doesn’t somehow end up getting delayed until 2027 or anything.
