Top 10 Favorite Video Games – Justicescooby

Top 10 Favorite Video Games – Justicescooby

I own hundreds of games and I have probably played thousands over the years, or even more, but there are some games that don’t let me go. These games keep me coming back to play again, even after I have beat it over and over again. To choose my top 10 games is definitely going to be a hard choice to make, but I will try my best.

Click the headings to check out my selections!

Number 10

Animal Crossing – GameCube

The tenth (lowest) spot on my list of top 10 favorite games is awarded to Nintendo’s Animal Crossing for the Nintendo GameCube. While Animal Crossing has produced some sequels, my loyalty currently remains to the original due to the fact that I haven’t played the sequels enough to respect them as much. Animal Crossing felt like Nintendo’s attempt to take on The Sims fanbase, and in my opinion, the game is much better then The Sims. Animal Crossing is an open-world and open-ended game in which you are a human who movies into a town with anthropomorphic animals, and you spend your time fishing, bug-catching, working, customizing your house and clothes, making friends with the animals, and much more. The game is odd in the fact that it plays when you aren’t playing, so your friends in the game will become angry when you stop playing for a month and don’t talk to them. The game also knows when you turn it off without saving, whether it be because you missed something important or lost a contest or something, a character in the game will yell at you for “cheating.”

Number 9

Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life – GameCube

Natsume’s Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life takes the 9th place in my top 10 list of favorite video games. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is a farm simulation in a sense, though it has more gameplay and goals then an actual simulation. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, much like the previously mentioned Animal Crossing, is an open-world and open-ended game for the Nintendo GameCube. Though it is not the first nor the latest game in the series, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is my favorite installment of the series that I have played so far.

Number 8

Pokémon Colosseum – GameCube

Pokémon Colosseum takes the 8th place in my top 10 favorite video game list! Pokémon Colosseum, developed by Genius Sonority for the Nintendo GameCube, is my favorite Pokémon game and is a very different Pokémon game as opposed to the usual Pokémon titles. Unlike the common Pokémon titles for the handheld game systems, Pokémon Colosseum puts you in the shoes of a character named Wes who has the ability to “snag,” or steal other people’s Pokémon, if and only if the Pokémon is a “shadow Pokémon.” Shadow Pokémon are Pokémon that have had their hearts darkened by Team Cipher, the antagonists of the game. While I also enjoy the sequel Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness, I prefer Pokémon Colosseum more due to it’s better story writing and characters.

Number 7

Paper Mario – N64

The 7th spot on my top 10 list goes to Nintendo’s Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64! Paper Mario may have produced some sequels, but the original remains my favorite to this day. Sadly, I haven’t played the latest game in the series, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, but I can not wait until I am able to play it. Paper Mario is an action-adventure RPG set in the Mario universe that was originally meant to be a sequel to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for the SNES, a game in which I sadly have not had the pleasure of playing as I have never owned an SNES, just an NES.

Number 6

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords – Xbox

250px-KotoriiboxObsidian Entertainment takes the 6th spot on my top 10 favorite games list with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords. This game is an RPG that takes place in the Star Wars universe approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. One thing I love about video games are when they have choices that effect the ending, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords, as well as the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, have said choices that effect gameplay.

Number 5

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Xbox

While Obsidian Entertainment did a great job with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords, they simply could not beat the prequel that started it all, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic developed by BioWare. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is my favorite Star Wars game currently developed, and it made me a fan of BioWare which inspired me to buy their future products that I enjoy like Mass Effect. While both the games in the series have a terrible PC port, it doesn’t change the fact that they are amazing games that are definitely in my top 10.

Number 4

The Walking Dead – PC

The Walking Dead

Telltale Game’s The Walking Dead takes the 4th spot on my list as it is one of the only games that was able to make me cry due to it’s story. The writing and artwork of this game are absolutely amazing, and this has made me a fan of Telltale Games indefinitely. This game truly makes you care about the characters and make some tough moral decisions in it as well. I simply can’t recommend this game enough to everyone.

Number 3

Fallout: New Vegas – PC

Fallout: New Vegas takes the 3rd slot on my top 10 favorite video games list. I am a huge fan of Bethesda’s work, and Fallout: New Vegas is definitely no exception! I love how the game consists of many different join-able, or ally-able factions, and that like all Bethesda games, it is extremely mod-able. While Fallout: New Vegas isn’t my favorite game in the Fallout universe, it is definitely an amazing game.

Number 2

Fallout 3 – PC

Bethesda takes yet another spot with Fallout 3 coming in second place! Fallout 3 has many join-able and ally-able factions, as well as amazing mod capabilities, much like Fallout: New Vegas. I prefer Fallout 3 to Fallout: New Vegas as I like the environment, story, and characters more. The creative freedom you get with characters and choices in Bethesda games are an amazing thing to experience, so the #1 spot should most likely be obvious from here.

Number 1

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – PC

I’m sure that many of you have gotten my #1 favorite game correct due to my last two choices, but if not; I award my #1 top favorite game to Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This game is one of those games that I can never stop playing, no matter how many times I’ve beaten it, and the amazing mods the community has made has made  it even harder to stop playing. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has such an immersive world that’ll make you actually want to find the books in the game and read them, which is not something many games can make people do (like.. who reads while playing a video game?) The many different factions and endings give this game a lot replay value, and it really allows you to understand the world in which you are playing in.

Honorable Mentions

There are many games I love, in fact, I love way too many to name. That being said, I feel that a few of the games that didn’t make the final cut onto this list still deserve a mention.

Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System!

Contrafor the Nintendo Entertainment System!

Mass Effect 2 for the PC!

Red Dead Redemption for the PS3!

Dude, I no joke played Animal Crossing almost everyday for like 2 years. I didn’t owe that son of a bitch, Nook a single bell!

Haha! Animal Crossing is amazing! I still play it to this day, though I am not too big on the sequels.. We’ll see. How do you feel about the Villager being added to the Super Smash Bros. roster? Lol!

  2. What I wouldn’t give for another single-player SWKOTR game. I was so excited for the MMO but it didn’t hold a candle to the originals. Bioware + RPGs = Nerdporn.

I haven’t had the chance to play The Old Republic MMORPG due to the install not working for me and BioWare having terrible customer support, but I do plan too! That being said, I don’t think they will compete with the two simple-player games. Yesterday however, EA announced the return of Darth Revan in the The Old Republic MMORPG, so now I am even more hyped to get it working. (Damn you, BioWare customer support.)
