Outlast 2 Devs Are So Sure You’ll S*** Your Pants They’re Making Diapers

Outlast 2 Devs Are So Sure You’ll S*** Your Pants They’re Making Diapers

Outlast 2 developer Red Barrels is kickstarting custom diapers to promote and compliment the game’s release. I’m not kidding, and neither are they. The first question I had is answered succinctly on the diapers’ Kickstarter FAQ.

“Wait… is this for real?”

“Yes, Underscares are a 100% real, physical product.”

While this is most certainly a PR stunt, it’s a completely serious one that promises to give backers who pledge around $41 USD or more functional adult diapers themed around Outlast 2, along with a Steam code for the game. Red Barrels is excellent at making games full of crazy people (made evident by Outlast‘s excellence and how Outlast 2 is shaping up) and it looks like it might be because they themselves are out of their damned minds.

These “Underscares” as they’re called come in two types: basic and deluxe (I cannot believe I’m describing these real-life items to you). The basic edition features “abrasion resistant fabric”, a “butt-grid”, and “elastic thigh portals” to ensure adequate protection. They feature a nice Outlast 2 minimalist logo patch dead center in the crotch for style.

For around $56, you can be the proud owner of the deluxe Outlast 2 Underscares, which look like something Old Snake would have worn in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots if the game’s events would have gone on long enough for his advanced aging to give the hero fecal incontinence. With increased waist support, a drink pocket so you can urinate while you hydrate, and a cute night light that dangles just above the groin, if you’re wasting your money on one of these collectible video game themed waste receptacles, it’d be a waste not to opt for the Deluxe Underscares over the Basic.

There aren’t just the two reward tiers for these diapers either. Rewards for various amount of dough include Red Barrel’s gratitude, a PDF and Outlast 2 patch so you can make your own weird Underscares out of whatever material you have lying around, and if you’re rich and insane you can pledge $6666 CA and get six deluxe Underscares (so you need fellow insane friends), six Outlast 2 keys, six Outlast 2 patches, and the Outlast 2 Chapel standee from their PAX East booth.

It’s also interesting to note that this Kickstarter has nothing to do with the funding of Outlast 2. Sure, it’s giving the game attention by being a ludicrous thing that Red Barrels is doing based around the hyperbole fans like to use regarding the title, but Outlast 2 is almost done, and its budget was put together prior to this. If this Kickstarter fails, it has no effect on the game. It’s genius marketing really. And if the Kickstarter does get funded, the weirdest set of collector’s items in video game history will be produced. I wonder what these will be worth 20 years down the line when Outlast is a triple-A franchise with a movie deal. I’d wager they’ll be worth more unsoiled, so maybe don’t wear them while playing Outlast 2.
