Nintendo’s master designer, Shigeru Miyamoto made a surprise appearance at Wednesday’s Apple press event to announce that video gaming’s flagship series will officially be arriving on iOS this year!

Super Mario Run will launch on the Apple iOS store during the 2016 holiday season.

According to Venture Beat, Super Mario Run will be a side-scrolling running title, which has Mario automatically running towards the right. Players tap on the screen to make Mario jump to clear obstacles and defeat enemies. In classic Mario fashion, players will also collect as many coins as possible and try to clear each stage before time runs out.

A competition mode called Toad Rally will let players compete to topple each other’s high scores.

Super Mario Run will be the latest high-profile Nintendo series to make its way to mobile phone this year since the company announced their plans to start producing titles for Android and Apple devices.

In July, Nintendo launched Pokemon Go, which quickly became the most downloaded mobile game ever.

Neither Nintendo or Apple has announced an exact date or price for Super Mario Run.

  1. There’s no way this game will fail! Lol. Even if I wanted it to, which I obviously don’t, Nintendo is redhot right now! Hopefully they can keep the masses pleased and keep dropping awesome bombshells, er, um, koopa shells, leading up to the NX release, which would probably help the NX tremendously. Imagine some sort of crossover benefit between their mobile games and their NX games? I wouldn’t be surprised. They’ve been hellbent on linking their mobile/handheld games with their console games for a LONG time now. This could be their moment!
