Battlefront: Force Awakens by RebornDev

Genre: First-Person Shooter, Third-Person Shooter

Nerd Rating: 5 out of 10!

Nerd Bacon’s local resident Robloxian Justicescooby is back again, and this time I am reviewing RebornDev’s unofficial Star Wars Battlefront spin-off Battlefront: Force Awakens. As a huge Star Wars fan who wasn’t too happy with the changes EA made to the Battlefront series, I was quite happy to see someone made a Battlefront game on ROBLOX and I simply had to test it out.

Battlefront: Force Awakens, as suggested by the name, takes place during the era of the new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens. That being said, oddly enough, the game still has characters from previous eras, namely Vader’s 501st troopers, royal guards, and scout troopers. Speaking of characters, the costumes are very real to Star Wars and helped with immersion quite a lot.

One of the greatest parts of the game are the controllable vehicles and turrets. The First Order tie fighters and Rebel Alliance T-47 air speeders are beautifully crafted, and they handle decently well. The vehicles are pretty powerful, but I wouldn’t call them overpowered. One of the nicest parts of the vehicles are the interface used to control them.

Battlefront: Force Awakens does suffer from a lack of maps, only having one pretty bland one. While not all games require more than one map to be enjoyable, like many ROBLOX games that only have one, but Battlefront: Force Awakens’ map is simply too small and too boring for a title that is inspired by something as big as Star Wars. There’s very little room to actually fly the vehicles besides going in circles, and once you’ve fought around the map once, you’ve seen everything.

Each team in Battlefront: Force Awakens only has initial access to one weapon each, an E-11 for the First Order, and a Westar-26 for the Rebel Alliance. The E-11 blaster rifle does exist in the canon Star Wars universe, and the in-game model looks and sounds pretty convincing. However, the Westar-26 blaster rifle, while inspired by the “legends” Westar pistol line, does not actually exist itself in the Star Wars universe. That being said, the Westar-26 does look like it belongs in Star Wars, and also sounds accurate to how Star Wars blasters sound.

Speaking of weapons, this is where we get to the really bad part of Battlefront: Force Awakens. Most people who love Star Wars want to play as a Jedi or Sith, especially since the official Star Wars Battlefront lets you do so, and while you can in Battlefront: Force Awakens, light sabers and force powers are both locked under a paywall. This is exceptionally terrifying since force powers seem to be quite overpowered from what I can tell. There are also more items locked under a paywall, including an upgrade to speed, an upgrade to health, a sniper rifle, and a jet pack.

It is quite clear that a lot of work went into Battlefront: Force Awakens, but while I really wanted it to be everything EA’s Star Wars Battlefront wasn’t, it simply isn’t. Hidden behind the beautiful vehicles, awesome controls, great costumes, and loyal Star Wars sound effects, lies a pay-to-win shooter that suffers from getting boring after the first round due to limited content. RebornDev, if you happen to read this, my suggestion is to remove the paywalls, add an unlock and load-out feature, add more maps, and even add a hero power-up if possible.
